The focus of the Summer Trail Series is to encourage runners of all abilities to experience the thrill of trail running. Our courses are clearly marked and designed to make your time on the trail as successful as possible. Whether you are new to trail running, a seasoned veteran, or somewhere in between, we're confident you'll thrive in Ultra Runners South Australia's wonderfully supportive environment.

Please note: the 2019/2020 season courses are currently being revised. The information below is subject to change.

The series comprises four races; each race has the option of a short course or long course. The distances for each course vary depending on the location of the race but range between 8.5km-10km for the short courses, 14km-16km for the medium courses and 18km-22km for the long courses. Details of race lengths are described below.

Age group categories have now been reduced to five-year spans, and there is also an improved points-score system to reduce the number of drawn results at the end of the Series. There will still be Long Course and Short Course Champions awarded at the end of the Series, as well as top-three age group awards. Plus medals will be awarded to the top three overall males and females at each event.

You don’t need to be aiming to be a “contender” for Series points. Each run is still a stand-alone trail event, and we would love to see you out there no matter what your motivation.

The focus of the Series is to encourage runners of all abilities – whether you are new to trail running or a veteran. We hope that you find the pre-event and in-event instructions plain and simple, to allow you more time to enjoy the run! We love running trails and we just want you to fall in love with it too, or to remind yourself why you enjoy running trails so much.

Back again for 2019/20 we have the Junior Trail Series, a special “Kids' Run” for children under 12 years old. ENTRY IS FREE!, and for their participation each Junior entrant will receive a bib and the opportunity to run on a short (1km or under) trail course. Their event is untimed so that they all have a chance to run a trail without the pressure to do well against their peers. Each Junior finisher will receive their own special medal at each event.

Summer is a great time to get out and exercise, especially first thing in the morning. We hope this Series will continue to inspire people to get out and enjoy the environment, something near and dear to Ultra Runners South Australia.

Don’t forget to enter all four events before the Anstey Hill race to receive your fourth event free!

Pretty stoked to have finished my second run of the Summer Trail series at Cleland today. Once again I got to meet and talk with some awesome people from the South Australian running community. Not saying that I’m finding running any “easier” but I’m starting to know my limits and push myself when I need to just keep going.

Volunteering for the Ultra Runners SA Summer Trail Series - Anstey Hill 14km long course this morning. We swept and demarked the course and had the best fun chatting away, planning our training week and catching up with friends.

I did it! 9km trail run up a 300m hill. I am ecstatic and super proud! I have never run more than 6k in my life, and only 1 other trail run. 9km and only a touch over an hour. Felt super strong throughout - sprinted home!!

Belair - Queen/King of the Mountain segment

Runners participating in the Half Marathon and 15km courses at Belair will have the opportunity to claim the crown as Queen or King of the Mountain on this section of the track.

If you are using a Strava app or compatible device during the race, Strava automatically allocates your time to any segment that you run through and uploads to its site. It then creates a league table of who is fastest, with the fastest being given a small yellow crown icon and the title of QOM (Queen of the Mountain) or KOM (King of the Mountain). After the Belair race we will view the leaderboard for results achieved during the race and award QOM and KOM for the Summer Trail Series at Belair. The title of QOM or KOM has no effect on Summer Trail Series points.

How The Series Works

Conditions:

  1. Entrants must compete in at least three of the four events to be eligible for Series awards.
  2. If an entrant completes four events, their worst result is dropped.
  3. The three events must either be all Long Course or all Short Course.
  4. Points are awarded in accordance with placing i.e. 1st place=1 point, 2nd place=2 points etc.
  5. The lowest accumulated point scores are the winners.
  6. In the event of a tied series placing, priority is given to the entrant who
    • completes the final series event or, if both complete the final series event,
    • finishes ahead of the other in the final series event.
